RFUK approach to participatory mapping published
Building on growing opportunities and support for mapping by different constituencies in the Congo Basin, this brief guide to the MappingForRights mapping methodology combines 15 years’ experience of supporting local communities to map their forest lands with the latest innovations in geo-spatial technologies.
The approach explained in this reference guide is the result of collaboration with indigenous peoples, non government organisations, (NGOs), community organisations, government agencies and specialised academic institutions. It addresses the need to improve community ‘ownership’ of the mapping process and to develop their capacity to assert and defend their rights to traditional lands, which are under imminent multiple threats.
